Another Great day the Lord hath made, let us rejoice and be glad in it. Live. Will it be another day of music playing? Maybe. I hope so. Of walks and study. Of reading new music and grappling with the text in the walk of the day? I hope so. Will it be a loving day? I hope so. The day will bring what it will. Adaptation then is real. I am with you. Let me trust then. Please. Let me suit up and let it not be a labor to do so. May these clothes of a warrior find me equipped with enough moving space to flow through this day. Thank You for everything. Indeed even for the breath in my lungs. I am yours and you are mine. The will. As Paul said. The will as God delivers it to our hearts and minds and souls as we confess and forgive as God equips and gives. Portals of prayer. St Francis. Vocation and vocational/ On the doing. Show my hands. Guard my lips. Strengthen my tenacity. Calm my heart. Feed my soul. Nourish my body and work my muscles heart and soul. Define the grace in me as a person as a child of God. Answer my questions in how problems find us in the stream. Trust in the current and the eddies. Look for the lunker hole and teach me when to cast the line. Help me to mend my nets. Let me sing. Let me rejoice and be glad. You know the way. Let me follow it. Amen. Our daily bread.
As a child and as an adult. Music if you have perfect intonation becomes maddening. It is true. The mind wants this perfection. My story is not so unique. Many have been through this journey of perfection. Do not mess with the word or the music or the liturgy. The desire to hear what we have heard in our home church was a perfect example. Now when visiting new places of worship, with new people. The gifts of people and their presence and needs. The joy of God's salvation in His word. How one watches and strives to see the breaking of the bread and the position of the Pastors hands over the cup etc. Why do we look so intently to see these things and understand what they mean? It just is. Indeed, in the new places of worship It must be respected these new people have their rituals, and they are not the same as what has been customary in our worship services. Language is language, and sanctity is sanctity. Is it maddening like in out of tune music. Or listening for perfection. Or a too heavy air box pressure to press down the keys on a pipe organ. Of hearing, a pipe organ needs adjustments for the musicians hands and all the aspects of pipe organ mechanics? Adjustments to the perfect intonation mind in worship. Encouragement. Correction. All aspects of what a child wants in worship. Maddening is not an appreciated emotion at church. No. Things must be done perfectly. Love in madness. Ashamed, but a real adventure in tenacity to believe in perfection. Ok, we forgive one and other. Yes, and are impatient to hear the word. Indeed, carry a bible then to church comes as an answer from yesterday's writings. In ones own language, to eat the text. The text as a long story as in the Iliad. My first large yachts name. How the boat needs to be kept in good condition to not have a through hull break in a storm. To understand where everything is on a boat. To know how to get to things in the dark or with your eyes closed. Church is like that. Go to church blindfolded. Let us see. Open our hearts, Lord. Is it I? Is it you. Always thee You and the I. What am I to do and what have you done for me since before I was even a gleam in my father's eye. A known person and a known God in such a manner. Where nothing is secret. Where everything is revealed to the God, who loves me. Yes, and you and all people. Loving all people. Vocation. Gifts of the spirit. Work and the inerrant demands of the disciplines one has been gathered in. Instruction and the stick to it ness of grace. I to do and God has done and is doing. Humility. Forgiveness. Fright and sheer madness when things are presented to us. Out of tune. Forgive me. Is it like banging gongs and noisy cymbals. Maybe. is it like a language teacher or a music teacher or vocal pedagogy who corrects us in the ways necessary to get us to perfect participant. Desiring to participate. Madness when one can't. Resignation and trust rise to greet us in our humility, and the defeat of which we so want to share in is babble to 0ur ears. Ones own language. Indeed. Forgive me. I, a sinner. Demanding from the laity to be that which I have come from. Looking for familiarity. Indeed. Always. Resting . Yet madness comes, and sometimes the only recourse is to leave. To go and sit in a quiet place and talk to a God who knows. He will give the answers. I am sure of it. Let me wait then Lord in peace. If it is un-peace that has me impatient, then guide my feet and direct my heart. O am yours and you are mine. Stand up, sit down. Pray. Sing, rejoice. Such is the way of a child. Such are the ways of men and women. Confessing praising adoring. Gracious and kind. Saved by grace through faith that no one should biast. Yes. it is so to the child. Forever a child seeking to please his Father. Practice. Example. Grace no works. A musician can only put out what they put in in the practice room. The trials of bad notes and improper time. To practice perfectly and indeed mistakes can make us laugh and take us into new musical journeys. To love. To see to hear, to touch delicacy To feel. A tuned. Anticipation of the next note and knowing where the harmony is to go before the music is to that point yet and deciding oneself is it here or there and making a game of this major piece, Masterpieces and the music we were raised on. The work of the organist, choir director. Schools of thought. The prices our families paid in expertise in worship and instruction. The selection of the Pastor. The call and their service to us. The listeners. The participants. Oh! Lord. Forgive what I have done and what I have left undone. How I have not loved others, or rather how I have been too brash in this loving in the demands put upon me in this madness. On ones own language. In the example. Of our forefathers. In the example of Jesus. Why did you doubt? Oh, man of little faith. I am with you. Yes. I rest. Have a great day. It is morning here. Rest. Awake slowly. Be still, my soul. How great thou art. Speaking with you and God in one voice of reason. Be still is real. The way, will be shown. It always is. To see is always focus. Washing ones eyes. The screen too bright. The font too small. With or without hearing aids. The best one can be as one ages. That which was and that which is. In this place in this time. Always. With us. How can one not be thankful then, Madness. :) indeed, is it a product of passion? It seems so. Rest. Let it go. Continue and strive to do your best. Clean your heart and say the 51rst psalm. Let your heart be cleaned. Seeds planted, watered and God gives the growth. Rest and wait. Don't trample the seeds or over water. Wait. Farmer. i know, :) laugh at yourself. God laughing with us and loving us. Share this love, then. A joy that God's truths are greater than what madness and perfection breeds in me. This journey of the senses. Rest. rest and rest. . Amen. Rock of ages. Cleft for me. Let me find myself in thee.
Pastor Wolfmueller, thanks for this word about "worship forms." One of our synod pastors shocked us when he said he communed a member over the phone, because the Word of God is "efficacious" in whatever mode. WHOA! As Luther in effect posits here (and elsewhere, I know), the question is NOT about the "efficacy" of the word, or about what God CAN DO, but indeed, what HIS WILL is in the administration of the sacraments! Worship forms in a digital age--BIG subject-- Thanks again!
What is erring forms of devotion and worship please.
Thanks.
