Im not so encouraged Mr. Maurer. I read above that the devil is fettered and manacled, but I also hear in the world that the devil is alive and working among us. Not sure which to hang my hat on.
The two things can be (and are) true at the same time. You'll notice that in the writing above it doesn't say the devil does absolutely nothing. It says that the devil is restrained by God.
What a wonderful and encouraging excerpt from one of Martin Luther's works. Sometimes we need to be reminded that we walk by "faith and not by sight." The Devil is still at work in this world, but his power is limited and restrained by our Father in Heaven. For us, who are in Christ Jesus, there is no condemnation. The Devil has no foothold on us or accusation he can bring to the courtroom of our conscience that is not a sin died for by Christ. God be praised for loving us as his own and redeeming his lost children!
This was most certainly on time today. I shared it with the professor who all about Middle East turmoil at this point and I for a friendship since 1988 have shared adventure sport music and the sharing of my faith. Amazing then in addition adding Sunday's Old Testament reading which also pertains to the matter past present and future in Isaiah 55 10-15. Adding all the prayers of the church in the Lutheran Service Book. Miers ar Tevi from Riga Latvia. Why are you doing this is asked. Because time is late in life and our friendship is a gift, as is everything we have, or experienced. Friendship is precious. For we love one and other God with our whole heart and mind and soul, and our neighbor as ourselves. A friend with so much history is a responsibility due to what I believe is a spiritual connection through sickness and health. God's Peace to You. Miers ar Tevi. :) Free will is mentioned with not reasoning and trusting God's word. A professor used to teaching political science. Free will and reasoning inclined to the apple and original sin. The text speaking to the power of God's word. Being so bold to share what is known. I am a simple laymen scholar learning and researching in loving in problems to find the word delivered as in just on time post address to any situation. Looking for the good and trusting the word. So much is said. In such a miraculous way, it is simply like water running from a rock and we so thirsty. Applied agape in life. Not my words but the word of God and all authority of heaven and earth. A thankful heart. Joy and peace. Amen
Yes Pastor, where is this from? Martin Luther? Regarding the possible "adverse" in the first paragraph above, we must not attribute to the angels as neglect but as the "temptation by which the godly as individuals and whole church are accustomed to be disciplined in this life". "Accustomed to be disciplined", does this tell us that as we give into the temptations of the world, we do so at our own peril and adversity that may ensue? Also, it refers to God using temptation and trial to "exercise" us.
Seems all we can continue to do is pray "lead us not into temptation" and "wait, endure and holdout". Not very good advertising to those we hope to lead to Christ. I think I need to re-watch your videos with Dr. Schulz. Those are fascinating. Thanks for making us think about such higher matters. Cindy S.
A very interesting and encouraging text: where does it come from?
From Martin Luther’s Genesis commentary (Chapter 32:1). Luther’s Works 6:85ff.
Thanks! It sounded like Luther but I didn't remember it from On Secular Authority.

It sounds a lot like Martin Luther
I was thinking the same thing … where is this from?

Do you have resources in spanish?
God’s timing is perfect and I was truly in need of this encouragement today. Thank you.
God is sovereign. His ways are not our ways.

The point that jumps off the page to me is “fleshly reason”- our own sinful thoughts, fears, and actions ...
Faith is not by sight. May I trust in The Lord Jesus Christ🙏🏻
