A Christian Response to Transgenderism
And the God who doesn't keep His Righteousness to Himself
(Wednesday What-Not is always free. Your subscription is only a helpful donation.)
1/ But Now! (Romans 3:21)
But now
the righteousness of God
apart from the law
is revealed.
2/ Holy Smokes
Pastor Kachelmeier is putting a few clips of his men’s Bible Study on YouTube. He’s currently working through Luther’s teaching on the conscience in the Large Catechism.
3/ Cranach, and Law and Gospel
https://lucascranach.org/ is the go-to website for Cranach art.
Jonathan has the Weimar Altarpiece on the cover of this year’s Reformation Service Bulletin.
The key element of the painting is the blood of Jesus falling onto the head of Cranach. We are covered with His blood.
Who can translate the texts in Luther’s open Bible?
In this painting Cranach paints his popular Allegory of Law and Gospel from a different angle. (I should make a video about that.)
We made a lot of media this week. Here are a few links:
4/ Theology of Pronouns, A (Brief) Christian Response to Transgenderism
Last week we had a young adult conference on the topic: A Theology of Pronouns. You can listen here to the audio lectures here on What-Not, the Podcast.
Here’s the link to the slides for the presentation.
5/ Worldwide Bible Class
Martin Luther is on fire talking about Jacob and the crosses of our Christian life.
The fact that these examples of the extraordinary struggles and of the troubles in which the whole life of this patriarch abounded occur in the church is profitable. They inflame the hearts of the godly to similar endurance, expectation, faith, and invocation in adversity. (LW 5, 200)
But these matters pertain to our doctrine; for theology is not philosophy, which looks at the things that are at hand, is inflated by prosperity, and is crushed when the same prosperity has been removed. (LW 5, 201-202)
This indeed is the administration of divine matters! The cornerstone must be rejected in order that we may learn to distinguish between divine and human government, and also that Jacob’s blessing has not been lost, but that this is only a trial, to see whether he is willing to cling to it firmly in faith and to wait. (LW 5, 202)
This is the constant course of the church at all times, namely, that promises are made and that then those who believe the promises are treated in such a way that they are compelled to wait for things that are invisible, to believe what they do not see, and to hope for what does not appear. He who does not do this is not a Christian. For Christ Himself entered into His glory only by first descending into hell. When He is about to reign, He is crucified. When He is to be glorified, He is spit on. For He must suffer first and then at length be glorified. (LW 5, 202)

The open bible in Cranachs painting shows three verses. The first one is from 1. John 1:7 'and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.'
The second verse is from Hebrews 4:16 'Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.'
The last one is from John 3:14 'And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:' with a few words beginning verse 15.
Greetings from Germany
