If you are able, join us at 10:00a central today for the Worldwide Bible class. We’ll continue to study the life of Jacob with Martin Luther.
(And we’ll start with a review of what we covered before the break.)
All the links and information are here: www.wolfmueller.co/bible.
If you are like me, it’s a good idea to set yourself a reminder at 9:57 am every week.
As I was putting together notes for the review, I was especially thinking of the way Luther reads the Jacob history differently than we do.
He really focuses on the promise the Lord gave to Rebecca, “The older will serve the younger.” Who believes that promise, and who doesn’t? That faith or unbelief drives the events of the story.
Rather than thinking of Jacob as a wimpy and conniving mamma’s boy, Luther sees Jacob as a scholar and priest. And, instead of seeing Esau as the heroic and storing man’s man, Luther understands him as worldly and unbelieving.
It’s been incredibly helpful for me, and I’m glad we are back at it today. I hope to see you there.
If you are wondering, this does not count as a regular Wednesday What-Not. The odds of that arriving today are not good. I’m thinking you’ll get a Friday What-Not this week. And I haven’t done a book giveaway in a few months, so I’ll try to do that on Friday as well.
See you soon.
