/ Wait on the Lord (Isaiah 40:30-31)
one more, for Epiphany:
/Great, Exceeding, overwhelming joy
Can you imagine yourself standing next to the Magi when the star reappeared, and you could see them laugh and cry as they realize God is taking them straight to their promised Savior! (What artist out there wants to paint a picture of the star reflected in the tear-filled eye of a Magi?)
This is the joy of faith, of knowing where your God is! (I preached a little about this on Epiphany. It was a short sermon, if you want to listen.)
/ The Life of the Saints: Descent and Ascent
(This will be part of the text we study today in the Worldwide Bible Class. Join us live at 9a Texas time.)
/ O Perfect Life of Love
This looks really good. Pr Brian Hamer has written some really great stuff on the intersection of music and theology on the Around the Word blog. This book looks like a wonderful extension of that project.
In O Perfect Life of Love, author Brian J. Hamer places the forty movements of the St. John Passion as a literary and musical stencil over the forty weekdays of Lent to create a daily listening lectionary. Both the German and English texts are provided to aid in listening, followed by a devotional meditation in which Hamer offers historical, musical, and theological commentary. This careful and deliberate approach to Bach’s masterwork will edify your Lenten piety as you behold the life-giving cross, on which was hung the salvation of the world.

/ In His Image: Navigating Christian Sexuality in a Post-Christian Culture
Doxology is hosting a series of conferences on human sexuality. Here’s the description from the website:
With the legal redefinition of marriage, the confusion regarding gender, and rapidly changing sexual mores in society, biblical educators, pastors, singles, couples, and parents are looking for guidance in articulating and promoting a positive view of the Christian vision for marriage and sexuality. Our goal is to equip people with tools to speak constructively and to live confidently amid the current confusion.

(My great-grandfather [dad’s mom’s dad] was actually named “Welcome Bach”. What a great name!)
