Dear Friends,
The Bible is a promise book. From the very first pages, where the Lord promises the devil that he will be destroyed by the Seed of the woman (Genesis 3:15), to the very last moment, where the Lord Jesus promises to come quickly, God makes promises.
This is unique.
In the Theological Dictionary of the New Testament it is notes that in the pagan world, of all the instances of the Greek word promise: “Among all the instances, only one example has been found for the promise of a deity.” In other words, for the pagans, people make promises to the gods, but the the gods never make promises to us.
Our God is different. He lavishes us with promises, and in these promises He gives Himself to us.
The guys over at Issues, Etc. asked me to present on the promises of God at their recent conference. In prepping, I found this great collection of the Promises of God assembled by Samuel Clark in 1720. I’ve republished the first four sections of his collection, which lists 927 Bible promises organized by circumstance and topic.
You can find them all on this webpage: www.wolfmueller.co/promises. (I hope you will bookmark this page, and refer to it often.)
You can download a PDF of the book for free by clicking here.
You can purchase the book from Lulu by clicking here. (The cost is $8.25.)
I hope this resource will be a blessing to you.
My friend Pastor Tim Pauls describes pray as the Christian saying, “Dad, you promised!” Exercising ourselves in the promises of God strengthens our faith, hope, love, and joy in the Lord’s good gifts.
