1/ The Lord’s Special Treasure! (Exodus 19:4-5)
2/ The Bible Starts with a Wedding
…or The Six Days of Creation are all Wedding Prep
Rejoicing in the wedding of our oldest son had me thinking about marriage a lot these last few weeks. It occurs to me that the days of creation were preparation for a wedding.
Imagine the angels, created early on, rejoicing and watching God create, wondering where this is all going. The marvel of light and dark, that is enough to eternally praise God, but there is more. Sky and sea, this would be enough beauty and wonder to eternally praise God, but there’s more.
Land, seeds, plants, sun, moon, stars, birds, fish, this would be enough to eternally praise God, but the angels have to suspect that the Lord has something even more.
Then the Lord scoops up some dirt, has a conversation between the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit about creating this new creature in His image, crafts Adam, breaths the breath of life into this first man, and surely the angels would think, “This is it! This is what the Lord has been aiming at, the crescendo, the purpose of creation!” But no! The Lord says, “It is not good for the man to be alone.” As if He were saying, “I’m not finished yet, there is something more to come.” Then the Lord causes Adam to sleep, takes the rib, creates Eve, and brings her to Adam.
That’s it! A wedding! Adam and Eve given to one another by God. “It was very good!”
The first recorded human words are a wedding hymn!
3/ And the Bible Ends with a Wedding!
“Blessed are all who are invited to the wedding feast of the Lamb.”
And, consider, there is only one invitation. This wedding feast is only for two: The Lamb and His Bride. We, the Lord’s people, are part of His bride, the church.
4/ Theology of AI
Here’s a very interesting conversation with Pastor and Missionary James Neuendorf about Artificial Intelligence and the Problem of Truth.
5/ The Catechism as Apologetic Tool
I’m at the Higher Things Retreat in San Antonio this week. Pr Pless was teaching on the Small Catechism as an apologetic tool. Fantastic stuff. Here are a few notes:
Luther understood the parts of the catechism as diagnosis and cure:
Ten Commandments → Diagnosis
Creed → Cure/Medicine
Lord’s Prayer → Asking for the Cure/Medicine
The old theologians thought of theology as “Faith seeking understanding” (Augustine/Aquinas). Luther thought of theology as “Faith enduring attack.” (Or maybe: “Faith seeking deliverance.”)
The Catechism guards us against four theological dangers:
Resignation
Cynicism
Withdrawal
Triumphalism
Luther does not argue FOR the existence of God, but FROM the existence of God.
Our idols are I.S.M.s, where we find our Identity, Security, and Meaning.
The source of anti-Christian hostility is not flesh and blood, but the demonic forces fighting against God and His Word. Because our fight is against the devil, the world, and the flesh, our apologetic is shaped by humility.
“A Christian is an eternal pupil, from infancy onwards.” Martin Luther
6/ A Throwback
I came across this old picture, Fiji,1997. Wow.

Congratulations on the wedding of your son! What a wonderful family milestone. 🌿
In regards to the Catechism, I added another line for the means of grace. Thoughts?
Ten Commandments: Diagnosis
Apostles Creed: Cure
Lord’s Prayer: Asking for the cure
Baptism, Lord’s Supper, Absolution: Cure applied personally
