1/ A Forever Throne (Psalm 102:12)
But you, O LORD,
are enthroned forever;
you are remembered throughout all generations.
2/ The Church’s Head of Household
Martin Luther applied the dream of Jacob at Bethel to the Reformation argument about where the true church is:
If the church is to be the house of God, it is necessary for it to have the Word of God and for God alone to be the Head of the household in this house. (LW V
We’re studying this portion of Luther’s Genesis commentary in the Worldwide Bible Class today. Join me live at 10a Texas time. www.wolfmueller.co/bible.
(You can also find the previous class recordings at that link.)
3/ The Angel Appears to the Shepherds (Thomas Cole)
4/ “Respect” for Marriage Act
Congress passed and the U.S. President signed the “Respect” for Marriage Act last week. This further’s our current cultural delusion about marriage, reinforces the lies we are telling to the next generation, and takes our current cultural experiment of setting personal autonomy against nature and God to the next level. This is a gnostic dream, that bodies don’t matter, that man and woman are not real, that my true self is self-defined.
LCMS President Harrison chimed in here. The Wyoming District released a statement here.
I also appreciated Stonestreet and Baer in Breakpoint This Week who argued that our main concern should not be the religious liberty issues, but the public good.
(Discussion starts around 23:00.)
5/ Martin Luther’s Christmas Sermons
A few years back I recorded and podcasted a year of Luther’s sermons. You can find six sermons for Christmas Eve and Christmas day (along with all the others) here: www.wolfmueller.co/luthersermon/.
(If you prefer to read them, here’s that link: https://wolfmueller.co/luthers-sermons-read/.)
This might be something fun to add to your Christmas devotions, or your Christmas travel.
6/ On How the Idols Mold Us Into Nothing (shaped in their image)
If you missed it…
You might not hear from me next week. Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year!
Thank you for being part of the conversation!
Remember to go to your pastor's Bible Class this week and, read old theology books. (If you don't have a pastor or congregation, click here. If you don't have old theology books, click here.)
