1/ O Woman! (Matthew 15:28)
Twice Jesus commends people’s faith like this. Both times they were praying for other people. (See Matthew 8:10)
2/ Welcome! (And Thanksgiving is a Jujitsu Master)
3/ Luther Loved Preaching About the Canaanite Woman
I made a little video about this, especially that crazy part on the bottom of page 153, here.
4/ Hawaii Help
I sent a not to Adam & Bethany Dirks in Hawaii, asking if there’s a good way to help the folks suffering over there. She sent this note:
Appreciate your thought and prayers. Yeah been rough for the folks we know over there.
This foundation was created by people we know. Christians that have a good intention to support the local families and prevent them losing their properties and rebuilding.
5/ John Lennox videos
Two John Lennox videos were recommended to me this week. He’s an Irish Scientist and Christian Apologist.
I’m taking notes on this one. Very good so far. The main take away of the presentation is: Materialism/Atheism/Determinism tries to address the problem of evil by denying good and evil (by denying God), but this fails in three ways:
it is not satisfying because we are moral beings,
you still have suffering (it does not address suffering, and perhaps makes it worse), and
you have no hope (or meaning).
These quotes from the lecture I’m adding to my files:
David Hume
EPICURUS's old questions are yet unanswered. Is he willing to prevent evil, but not able? then is he impotent. Is he able, but not willing? then is he malevolent. Is he both able and willing? whence then is evil?
(Hume, Dialogues Concerning Natural Religion. part 10, https://gutenberg.org/cache/epub/4583/pg4583-images.html)
Richard Dawkins
“The total amount of suffering per year in the natural world is beyond all decent contemplation. During the minute that it takes me to compose this sentence, thousands of animals are being eaten alive, many others are running for their lives, whimpering with fear, others are slowly being devoured from within by rasping parasites, thousands of all kinds are dying of starvation, thirst, and disease. It must be so. If there ever is a time of plenty, this very fact will automatically lead to an increase in the population until the natural state of starvation and misery is restored. In a universe of electrons and selfish genes, blind physical forces and genetic replication, some people are going to get hurt, other people are going to get lucky, and you won't find any rhyme or reason in it, nor any justice. The universe that we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, nothing but pitiless indifference.” (Richard Dawkins, River Out of Eden: A Darwinian View of Life p. 113)
“DNA neither cares nor knows. DNA just is. And we dance to its music.” (Richard Dawkins, River Out of Eden: A Darwinian View of Life)
“Nature is not cruel, only pitilessly indifferent. This is one of the hardest lessons for humans to learn. We cannot admit that things might be neither good nor evil, neither cruel nor kind, but simply callous—indifferent to all suffering, lacking all purpose.” (Richard Dawkins, River Out of Eden: A Darwinian View of Life)
This video, God DOES Exist was also sent to me. If you watch it before me, let me know what you think.
6/ The Supper and Worthiness
From the Treasury of Daily Prayer…
Why, then, do we practice closed communion?
7/ Martyr’s Faith reviews.
I really appreciated everyone who tool the time to leave so many kind reviews of A Martyr’s Faith.
