/ God Plays Rough
The heart of God is gentle, even if the hands of God are rough.
This was part of today’s Worldwide Bible Class. Pretty great stuff from Luther today:

/ G. K. Chesterton on Celts and Celtophiles
In a very strange Twitter exchange from a few months ago, as part of this Race Debate, I was asked if G. K. Chesterton thought an Irishman could become an Englishman.
I’m not sure what motivated the question(er), but I went digging around, and found the astonishing Chapter XIII of Heresies: Celts and Celtophiles.
You can (and should) read this entire chapter here: https://www.ccel.org/ccel/chesterton/heretics.xiii.html
Here are some excerpts:
"And England and the English governing class never did call on this absurd deity of race until it seemed, for an instant, that they had no other god to call on."
“Nationality is a thing like a church or a secret society; it is a product of the human soul and will; it is a spiritual product. And there are men in the modern world who would think anything and do anything rather than admit that anything could be a spiritual product.”
"…of all the forms in which science, or pseudo-science, has come to the rescue of the rich and stupid, there is none so singular as the singular invention of the theory of races."
“And how much of that diluted blood can possibly remain in that roaring whirlpool of America into which a cataract of Swedes, Jews, Germans, Irishmen, and Italians is perpetually pouring, is a matter only interesting to lunatics.”

I know everyone loves to quote C.S. Lewis, and not to pit them against each other (ok, maybe just a little) but Chesterton just seems much more joyful, and is so neglected among people I know.
