1/ At Least We Should Try (Luke 12:56)
Jesus says:
You hypocrites!
You know how to interpret the appearance of earth and sky,
but why do you not know how to interpret the present time?
2/ Some of the Best Resources I Use to Help “Interpret the Present Time”
Al Mohler’s The Briefing. Tuesday’s edition on the gender revolution was very helpful. (Listen here.)
The World and Everything In It daily new podcast, which is Christian journalism.
Breakpoint, from the Colson Center, especially their Friday conversation podcast. I’m always jotting down notes from John Stonestreet. Last Friday’s conversation was very helpful.
Here’s the summary: John and Maria discuss the Tavistock centre (a gender clinic) in north London being forced to close due to multiple lawsuits. They also muse over Serena Williams’ recent announcement to quit tennis so that she can focus on her family, particularly examining the way it’s culturally framed as being a burden. Concluding by reflecting on a recent commentary, they talk about the ways that “chosen families” can never replace the responsibility and foundational importance of biological families.
3/ On the Mystery of Trying to Become a God and Instead Becoming a Slave
After a bit of a break, Sunday Drive Home (which was really Friday Drive to Church) is back at it.
4/ ALL the Treasures of Wisdom and Knowledge
I’ve been trying, lately, to read bigger chunks of Scripture. That’s meant reading through Colossians a few times in the last week. A little sentence fragment keeps jumping out at me.
Paul talks about Jesus this way to the Colossians (2:2b-3a):
Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
We are all pursuing wisdom and knowledge, and Paul is telling us where to look: Jesus. In fact, this is the only place to look, all the treasures of wisdom and all the treasures of knowledge are in Christ.
Astonishing!
5/ Lutheran Philosopher
This understanding of Christ the bearer of all wisdom’s treasures is Dr. Gregory Schulz, who continues in exile from the classroom, but has a fantastic new website presenting his insights into the Lord Jesus and His world. The Lutheran Philosopher website. (You can sign up for updates there as well.)
Here’s a conversation about conversation.
6/ Read Your Bible
It is this presentation from Pr Packer that's spurred me on to read more big chunks of the Biblical text.
7/ Travis Loeslie and Family Go-Fund-Me
If you are looking for a good cause, here’s one. May the Lord bring peace out of this sickness. Thanks for sharing.

8/ Luther on the Virtue of Faith
Let us consider this as the first virtue of faith; and let us look also to the second. This also is an office of faith, that it honors with the utmost veneration and the highest reputation him in whom it believes, inasmuch as it holds him to be truthful and worthy of belief. For there is no honor like that reputation of truth and righteousness, with which we honor him, in whom we believe. What higher credit can we attribute to any one than truth and righteousness, and absolute goodness? On the other hand, it is the greatest insult to brand any one with the reputation of falsehood and unrighteousness, or to suspect him of these, as we do when we disbelieve him.
Thus the soul, in firmly believing the promises of God, holds Him to be true and righteous; and it can attribute to God no higher glory than the credit of being so. The highest worship of God is to ascribe to Him truth, righteousness, and whatever qualities we must ascribe to one in whom we believe. In doing this the soul shows itself prepared to do His whole will; in doing this it hallows His name, and gives itself up to be dealt with as it may please God. For it cleaves to His promises, and never doubts that He is true, just, and wise, and will do, dispose, and provide for all things in the best way. Is not such a soul, in this its faith, most obedient to God in all things? (Martin Luther, On Christian Freedom, p. 10)
